Spent the greater part of today working on this image, which I have now set as my new desktop background: http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/908/newdestopafc.png
GIFS!!! - What am I doing wrong?
Dec. 30th, 2011 06:07 pmSo, I've got a question for any of you who might happen to make gifs or just know your way around photo editing programs.
( tl;dr - babbling about specifics )
Here are the results...
Active Pixels

GIMP

Photoscape

That's how my Gifs come out. The colors get blotchy and pixelated. Not to mention whatever weird things are happening to Naru's tongue.
Meanwhile, other people post amazing things like these...

Why can't I make mine look like those?
Is there a setting or something that needs to be adjusted? Is there a different freeware program that can do it better? Am I going to have to spend money if I want my gifs to look that nice?
What am I doing wrong?

further to yesterday's post
Aug. 8th, 2011 02:03 pmSo, I've been thinking about maybe starting up a podcast. I'm even name-sitting on Twitter, Blogspot, and GMail. However, I'm not really sure if I should do it or not.
( I don't know what to call this cut. )
My Concerns:
1) What happens if I lose my passion for the idea and want to move on to something else.
2) Can I do it well?
3) Will anybody give a shit?

I finally bought myself a new trench coat. Between holding out for a good deal, it not being decent coat wearing weather, and me just plain forgetting about it, it took me a little while. What re-kindled the fire was that I ordered myself a new patch. The patch is on back order. I ordered it two weeks ago, still no sign of it. I ordered the coat on Friday and it arrived yesterday.
Naturally, I was quick to begin adorning it with some of my many pieces of flair. The patches have been pinned to the places where I think I'm going to put them. The sewing will be a good way to pass time at work.
( Pics or it didn't happen. )
You know you're watching too much anime when you start googling kanji.****
****Placed outside the cut in an attempt to lure in those who might not have looked.

Random Connections I Notice
Apr. 23rd, 2011 01:47 pmJust a couple of connections/parallels I've noticed between a few of my favorite shows.
I wonder why I like those shows better than others...

Made from the various opening and close credits sequences throughout the five seasons.
I love the artwork so much on this show. There's such a life and beauty in it that I haven't really seen in any other animated shows. Since I've been making the screencaps myself, it's likely that I've gone way overboard, but I'm having a good time.

( 186 icons under the cut. )
Consider them all snaggable. Hope they're enjoyable.

where to start?
Mar. 2nd, 2011 10:16 pmWell, I guess I'll start with the vid. This was my entry for the first challenge in the Last Vidder Standing contest. To my surprise, it got four votes for best video, beating out the others in the category.
I say it surprised me, which is not to say that the video's bad, just that I haven't managed to score high in these LAS competitions previously. Also, this was my back-up vid.
Well, it started as my back-up vid anyway. It took me forever to settle on an idea to fit the prompt, but as the days ticked by and the deadline got closer, I realized that I was not going to be able to download the contnet fast enough to execute my idea. (I'll sit on that plot bunny for now, in the hopes that I can apply it to a later round. Whenever the competition ends, expect several vids from me as I siphon off any remaining plot bunnies.)
I had had a second idea, but I wasn't really sure if I could pull it off. I was also hesitant about sharing my love (see also: deep adoration) for this fandom. However, with time running out, I started to put the video clips together, without having decided quite how everything would fit or even what song would work for the theme. I hit the random button on my music player and eventually worked out a few songs that could fit. Finally, I decided on the piano piece from Veronika Decides to Die (dubbed Recital in the Night by fans on Youtube). The piece really captures the dramatic and tragic tones of the clips.
When things finally started coming together, I really started liking this vid. I decided that I could even go ahead and stop running BitTorrent 24/7 in the hopes of finishing the other download because I had managed to make a really good video.
I worried that others might not enjoy the video or might not vote for it owing to the choice of fandom, but apparently it was pretty well-liked by the voters. Who'd've thunk it?
I'm slow to discuss this particular fandom because I worry what people will think. I even feel weird about feeling self-conscious about it, but I think that people perceive this fandom as childish and/or girly. And really (in it's original form) it's not either of those things. There's a lot of stuff going on in this show that is so much more than what it might seem to an outside viewer.
Well...it may be a little bit childish and girly at times, but so am I and I love this show.
